Sean Payton Thinks The 2020 NFL Season Will Begin With No Fans In The Stands

Posted by | May 13, 2020 .

Saints head coach Sean Payton joined CBS Sports and sounded confident about season starting on time, but wasn’t sure if there would be anyone in the stands.

“I think the biggest challenge obviously is the stadiums and fans”, said Payton. “Just myself personally, I think that would be a much more difficult challenge here as we look to kick-off the season in September. So, I wouldn’t be surprised to see the games being started on time in a much more controlled environment. And, the premium on television in watching the games, much like were doing now with a lot of different things; that would be the vehicle in this 2020 season.”

It’s hard to envision an empty stadium on Saints gamedays, especially since part of the Dome field advantage is the chaotic crowd noise being belted down at opposing offenses. Another topic Coach Payton was asked about is the quarterback situation with Drew Brees, Taysom Hill and now Jameis Winston joining the mix this season.
